January's Update

January’s Community Service Hours: 5 hours

Cumulative Hours: 5 hours

During winter break, when I went home I was able to volunteer for the Hearts for the Homeless again. I went to their Yolo Food Bank location and helped provide free blood pressure and blood glucose screenings to the unhoused and underserved communities of Sacramento. As I’ve mentioned before, I am the current UC Davis liaison and generally do not get a lot of chances to interact with the community in person anymore. So, I was glad that I got to volunteer twice over the break, which also gave me the chance to meet several new members who joined the organization this year.

Then, in our Pharmacology program we had a short Reproductive unit. In the past I always struggled with this content, but now I was able to easily grasp the contents and understand the material much better. I also had a presentation in Advances as well as Neuropharmacology last week. Since we have already done three presentations last semester for Advances, it was fairly simple as we know the structure very well. However, since Neuropharmacology is a new course, I first found it a bit difficult adjusting as the rubric and style of presenting was different. However, I do believe the reading and speaking skills I am learning from these classes are going to be very valuable in the future.
